I added a poem to this week's IF
WISE
A wise old owl flew by and landed close to me,
“I see you are in need of some advice,” he said
“And I can give it for a fee.”
“It’s true” I said. “But can I be sure that you are truly wise,
“Of course I am, I’m an owl aren’t I, and this is no disguise.”
“What do you charge?” I asked,
“So that I might pay it?”
“Interesting question,” said the owl
“Now let me just explain it.”
“You shall pay what I’m worth and not a penny short,
And this payment shall be paid to me and to no other sort.”
“It shall be in an amount worthy of my skill,
An amount not easily quantified nor measured if you will.”
“A sum just right for services rendered,
I’m speaking of mine of course,
I’m no average old owl who can be bought
For simple banter or discourse.”
“For you see my mind is special,
My intelligence beyond belief,
And no ordinary fee could do me justice,
That would permit me to bequeath.”
“My mind is like a diamond;
Priceless, dazzling and hard,
It can not be wasted for just any amount
And I don’t take credit cards.”
“Oh forget it,” I said.
Your wisdom is both dull and annoying,
Plus I forgotten my dilemma
And I really must be going.”
The owl just stared ahead, un-phased
As I got up to leave,
But then I heard him take a breath and say
“That’ll be $10 please.”
